Batmasian Family Supports Theater Lab at Florida Atlantic University

Since settling in Boca Raton 35 years ago, Jim and Marta Batmasian, the owners of Investments Limited, have actively supported the many organizations that make their community a great place in which to live, work, and play, and they underwrite and lend unwavering backing to a wide variety of local causes.

Jim and Marta Batmasian’s support of the Theater Lab at Florida Atlantic University, which they started three years ago, once again enables the famed Founding Director & Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in the Arts, Louis Tyrrell, to bring contemporary and inaugural world premier works of the playwrights to the University and the Community. Established in 2015 on the Boca Raton campus, Theatre Lab’s mission is to inspire, develop, and produce new work, audiences, and artists for the American Theatre.

“Truly exciting is the fact that students are given a chance to act with professional equity actors in preparation for their career goals”, says Marta Batmasian.  In addition to the mainstage productions, the Theater Lab offers the Playwright’s Forum and Master Class Series, play readings and other cultural activities in a picturesque setting, facing the lake and easy parking access.  Jim and Marta see this venue as a multipurpose facility to have other cultural and community-related activities to serve the needs of faculty and students showcasing their talents.

2018-19 Mainstage Productions include TAR BEACH by Tammy Ryan (Southeastern Premiere Nov. 30 – Dec. 16, 2018), WE WILL NOT BE SILENT by David Meyers (Southeastern Premiere Feb. 8 – 24, 2019), and HARLOWE by Jennifer Lane (World Premiere March 29 – April 14, 2019).

January 4-6, 2019 there will be a New Play Festival.  This jam-packed festival welcomes some of the nation’s most prominent playwrights as they present readings of their newest work before it lands on stages across the country.  Each reading is accompanied by a post-show discussion, an opportunity to interact with the playwrights themselves, where they will discuss the process, inspiration, and plans for future development.

Tickets are available at www.fauevents.com  or by calling 561-297-6124.  For more information on the Theater Lab, visit www.fau.edu/artsandletters/theatrelab/
